Many people thought that metro Manila is just Manila or Makati. Where the poor and slums are in Manila and the rich and highrise are only in Makati. That when they land on NAIA they thought its already Manila but in fact, they were in the city of Pasay (literaly).
Metro Manila is so huge that it composes of 16 highly urbanized cities. Side by side each other and very accessible. Well, organize business district and industrial park. That the only major problem is, it is too overcrowded that the pedestrian sidewalk is too small and narrow that will cause the people to walk on the main road. And that there is so much public transportation to choose from making it the cause of its traffic jams. But other than that Metro Manila is just fine. Cool and nice place to work and play. Business and pleasure. I havent said it was perfect but what mega city is perfect anyway? New York subways has its dirty side, rats all over. In Paris and London pickpockets are also everywhere. So what do you expect in a third world?
Everybody is looking for the dirty sides of metro Manila but in fact, Jakarta has more slums than metro Manila. Bangkok is more notorious for the sex trade and prostitution than the red-light district of Manila or as a whole. And it is still has the highest cases of HIV in Southeast Asia. That KL is more dangerous than Manila. 3 cities in Malaysia are listed in the top 10 most dangerous cities. Manila has not even come close. Singapore? What can I say? Very progressive and advanced but the people are not so friendly. And HCM well a lot of catching up to do. I'm sorry if I'm wrong with those cities.
