Raising happy, healthy, and successful kids has always been the goal of most parents, but have you ever wondered whether the country you’re living in plays a part in fulfilling that wish? According to a new report, some countries do provide a better environment for raising kids than others, and Norway, a Scandinavian nation in Europe, is the best country in the world to raise kids.
The study, which was conducted by medical publication The Lancet, in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, looked at 180 countries and rated them according to a “child flourishing index,” which measured factors like child survival rates, how many years they spend in school, nutritional data, access to health services, hygiene and sanitation, maternal mortality, prevalence of violence, teen birth rates, and lack of poverty. At the same time, researchers also looked at the carbon emission levels of each country to see how children’s future is being protected in relation to a changing environment.
Norway, which is famous for its mountains, fjords, and northern lights, topped the list, followed by South Korea, Netherlands, France, and Ireland. Denmark, known as the happiest country in the world, came in sixth place. Meanwhile, the Philippines ranked 110 out of 180.
